Federal University Lokoja (FUL), located in the historic city of Lokoja, Kogi State, Nigeria, is one of the younger institutions in the country, but it is rapidly gaining prominence. Established in February 2011 by the Federal Government of Nigeria as part of an initiative to expand access to quality tertiary education, FUL has since grown into a dynamic center of learning, research, and innovation.
History and Founding
The establishment of Federal University Lokoja was part of the Nigerian government's strategy to address the educational needs of the nation's burgeoning youth population. Alongside eight other federal universities set up in 2011, FUL was designed to increase the number of higher education institutions in under-served regions. Lokoja, with its rich history as the confluence of Nigeria's major rivers and a former capital of the Northern Protectorate, was chosen for its strategic location and historical significance.
Campus and Facilities
Located on a serene site near the River Niger, FUL's campus offers a conducive environment for learning and research. The university started on a temporary site, the Adankolo Campus, but has been gradually moving to its permanent site along Lokoja-Abuja Road, which is equipped with modern facilities.
