“I canceled a $6k show in USA to meet Davido and he ended up wasting my time. If you want to help me, help me and don’t stress me” ~ Portable.

Nigerian street-hop artist, Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, recently took to social media to express his frustration and disappointment with Afrobeat superstar Davido. According to Portable, he canceled a scheduled performance in the United States, worth $6,000, just to meet with Davido, only to have his time wasted.

In a video shared on his social media platforms, Portable lamented that he made significant sacrifices to make the meeting happen, expecting it to lead to a meaningful collaboration or support from Davido, who is one of Africa's most prominent music figures. However, the encounter did not go as planned, leaving Portable feeling sidelined and disregarded. “I canceled a $6,000 show in the USA to meet Davido, and he ended up wasting my time. If you want to help me, help me and don’t stress me,” he said, visibly frustrated.

Portable, known for his raw and outspoken style, emphasized that he did not need any unnecessary stress or games, but genuine support. He claimed that he had hoped the meeting would present an opportunity for growth, collaboration, or mentorship, but instead, it resulted in what he described as a “waste of time.” The singer added that he was tired of dealing with what he sees as insincerity within the music industry, where many promises are made, but few are kept.

His comments have sparked a conversation among fans and industry watchers, with many wondering about the details of the meeting and what might have transpired between the two artists. Some of Portable’s supporters have taken to social media to criticize Davido, accusing him of not supporting up-and-coming artists enough, while others have suggested that Portable may have misunderstood the situation or had unrealistic expectations.

Portable's outburst reflects a broader sentiment among some younger artists in Nigeria’s competitive music industry, who feel that established stars should do more to help emerging talents break into the mainstream. Portable, who rose to fame with his hit song "Zazoo Zeh," featuring Olamide and Poco Lee, has often spoken about his struggles in the industry and his desire for more support from established artists.

Meanwhile, neither Davido nor his team has officially responded to Portable’s allegations. Davido, who has been known for supporting new artists and contributing to their success, has collaborated with many emerging talents in the past. However, the silence from his camp has left many speculating about what might have gone wrong during their attempted meeting.

Some fans have advised Portable to handle such matters more discreetly, suggesting that publicly airing grievances could damage potential relationships or opportunities in the future. Others believe his outspoken nature is what makes him relatable and has endeared him to many fans.

As the conversation unfolds, Portable remains steadfast in his position, insisting that he is tired of what he describes as the “fake love” in the industry and that he wants only sincere and straightforward dealings going forward. His candid comments continue to make waves, highlighting the tension and complexity within Nigeria’s vibrant music scene, where young artists often look to more established stars for guidance and support, but do not always receive the help they hope for.
