“Only 32 police officers securing 200 villages in Katsina” ~ Governor Radda

Governor Dikko Umaru Radda of Katsina State has expressed deep concern over the inadequate number of police officers assigned to secure the state's rural communities. According to the governor, only 32 police officers are currently tasked with providing security for over 200 villages spread across the state, a ratio he described as alarmingly insufficient given the rising insecurity in the region.

Governor Radda's statement highlights the dire security situation in Katsina, a state that has been grappling with a surge in criminal activities, including banditry, kidnappings, and armed robbery. These challenges have left many communities vulnerable and in constant fear, with rural areas being particularly hard hit. The governor lamented that the current security arrangement falls far short of what is needed to adequately protect the residents and ensure peace and stability in the region.

The governor emphasized that the lack of adequate police presence has made it increasingly difficult to maintain law and order, especially in the state's remote areas, where criminal groups often exploit the limited security coverage to carry out their activities with impunity. Governor Radda called for urgent action to address the imbalance and reinforce security across Katsina State, including deploying more police personnel and resources to the affected areas.

In addition to deploying more officers, Governor Radda has advocated for a comprehensive security strategy that involves a collaboration between the state government, federal security agencies, and local communities. He has also emphasized the need for the federal government to invest in equipping the police with modern tools, vehicles, and communication gadgets to enhance their effectiveness in combating crime.

Furthermore, Governor Radda has highlighted the importance of community policing and the engagement of local vigilante groups to supplement the efforts of the police. He believes that these local groups, who are familiar with the terrain and local dynamics, can play a crucial role in supporting security operations and providing valuable intelligence to the authorities.

The governor has assured the people of Katsina that his administration is committed to addressing the security challenges facing the state. He reiterated his call for the federal government to urgently increase police deployment to Katsina and other similarly affected states in the North-West region to help restore peace and stability.
