“We will arrest killers of 17 soldiers in Okuama, no matter how long it takes” ~ Chief of Defense Staff

The Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) of Nigeria, General Christopher Musa, has vowed that the armed forces will capture those responsible for the brutal killing of 17 soldiers in Okuama, a community in Niger State. In a firm statement, General Musa declared, “We will arrest the killers of our 17 soldiers in Okuama, no matter how long it takes,” emphasizing the military’s unwavering commitment to bringing the perpetrators to justice and restoring peace in the affected area.

The attack, which occurred during an ambush on a military convoy, resulted in the tragic loss of 17 soldiers, including officers and other ranks, and several others were injured. This incident has sent shockwaves throughout the country, highlighting the growing security challenges facing Nigeria, particularly in regions plagued by armed banditry, terrorism, and communal violence.

General Musa described the attack as a “heinous and cowardly act” against the Nigerian military, which remains steadfast in its mission to protect the nation and its citizens. He assured the public that the Nigerian Armed Forces will not relent in their efforts to hunt down those responsible, stating, “We owe it to the families of the fallen heroes, to their colleagues, and to the entire nation to ensure that justice is served.”

The Chief of Defense Staff also outlined a comprehensive strategy to apprehend the perpetrators, involving intensified intelligence gathering, increased surveillance, and collaboration with local communities. He stressed that the military would leave no stone unturned in its pursuit of the attackers and that all available resources would be deployed to track them down. He further emphasized that the military will operate within the framework of the law, ensuring that any suspects apprehended will be brought to justice through due process.

General Musa appealed to local residents in Okuama and surrounding communities to cooperate with the security agencies by providing credible information that could lead to the identification and capture of the attackers. He also warned that anyone found aiding or abetting the criminals would face severe consequences. “We are determined to protect every part of this country,” he said, “and those who think they can challenge the authority of the state with impunity will be decisively dealt with.”

In addition to the manhunt for the attackers, the Chief of Defense Staff announced that the military would strengthen its presence in the region to prevent future attacks and enhance overall security. He reassured the public that measures are being taken to protect both military personnel and civilians, while also working to stabilize the area and deter further violence.

The Nigerian government has condemned the attack and expressed full support for the military's efforts to track down the perpetrators. The government also called for unity and solidarity among citizens, urging them to stand behind the armed forces as they continue to battle against criminal elements threatening national security.

The attack in Okuama underscores the persistent security challenges in some parts of Nigeria, where insurgents, bandits, and other criminal groups continue to pose serious threats. However, General Musa's promise to bring the killers to justice reflects the determination of Nigeria's military leadership to confront these challenges head-on, no matter the obstacles or the time it takes. The armed forces remain committed to their duty of safeguarding Nigeria's sovereignty, peace, and security.
