Gombe donates N100 million to Borno flood victims

The Gombe State Government has extended a hand of solidarity to the people of Borno State by donating ₦100 million to support victims of the recent floods that have devastated parts of the state. This generous contribution is aimed at helping those affected by the disaster, particularly the thousands of families who have been displaced, lost their homes, and are grappling with the aftermath of the flood.

The donation was announced by Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, as a gesture of compassion and regional unity in addressing the shared challenges of natural disasters in the northeastern part of Nigeria. Gombe, like many other states, has also experienced the effects of heavy rainfall and flooding, making the state government particularly empathetic to the plight of their neighbors in Borno. By making this financial contribution, Gombe State is playing its part in supporting ongoing relief efforts in Borno, where the local government and federal agencies have been working tirelessly to assist the flood-affected population.

Governor Yahaya emphasized that the donation represents more than just financial aid. It is also a message of solidarity between the two states, which share cultural and geographical ties, as well as similar environmental challenges. He noted that the floods in Borno had caused widespread destruction to communities, farmland, and infrastructure, putting immense pressure on relief agencies to provide for the displaced.

The ₦100 million donation will be channeled toward providing emergency relief materials such as food, clean water, medical supplies, and temporary shelters for displaced persons. It will also assist in longer-term recovery efforts, including the rehabilitation of damaged infrastructure and restoring livelihoods, particularly for farmers whose crops were destroyed by the floods.

Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum expressed deep gratitude for Gombe’s support, highlighting how the contribution will strengthen ongoing efforts to alleviate the suffering of flood victims. He also noted the importance of inter-state cooperation in dealing with such crises, as the effects of climate change continue to increase the frequency and severity of natural disasters in Nigeria.

This donation from Gombe State adds to the growing list of humanitarian contributions from individuals, corporations, and government bodies aimed at supporting Borno during this challenging period. It is a reflection of the shared sense of responsibility and collective effort needed to tackle the impact of natural disasters in the region. The assistance will not only provide immediate relief but also contribute to rebuilding and recovery efforts for affected communities in the long run.
