Newly appointed Super Eagles manager, Bruno Labbadia, has turned down the job less than two weeks before crucial Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Benin and Rwanda.

In a surprising turn of events, newly appointed Super Eagles manager Bruno Labbadia has declined the position just days before crucial Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying matches against Benin and Rwanda. Labbadia, who was announced as the head coach less than two weeks ago, has informed the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) of his decision to step down, citing personal reasons and unforeseen circumstances that make it impossible for him to take up the role at this time.

The sudden withdrawal has thrown the Super Eagles' preparations into disarray, as the team was gearing up for the decisive qualifiers that could determine their participation in the next AFCON tournament. Labbadia, a German-Italian football coach with experience in managing top European clubs such as Hertha Berlin, Wolfsburg, and Hamburg, was expected to bring a new tactical approach and leadership style to the Super Eagles.

The NFF is now faced with the urgent task of finding a replacement coach to lead the team into the qualifiers. The Federation expressed disappointment over Labbadia's decision but reassured fans that they are working around the clock to appoint a new manager who can seamlessly step in and prepare the squad for the upcoming matches. The NFF also hinted at the possibility of appointing an interim manager from within the country’s coaching ranks or seeking an experienced international coach on short notice.

Labbadia's decision has sparked concern among Super Eagles fans and stakeholders, who fear that the abrupt change in management could affect the team's morale and performance. The players, many of whom are based in Europe, were already looking forward to working under Labbadia's guidance, with hopes that his experience would enhance the team’s strategy and execution on the field.

With time running out before the qualifiers, the focus now shifts to how the NFF will navigate this unexpected setback and ensure that the Super Eagles are adequately prepared to secure vital points against Benin and Rwanda. The coming days will be crucial in determining the team's direction and prospects for the AFCON tournament.
